New Canadian Politics Thread

well shit.

hopefully they'll make counselors available to anyone working there upon your return. that could've easily been much much worse.
Oh ya. Good employer that way.

And ya I sort of assumed it was just some random guy shooting but when you see the vest and gun you realize this guy was doing planned attack with death on his mind.

Which makes the unarmed guard taking him down a huge deal. Such bravery and probably prevented death. Want to see some footage of that.

Scary shit Worm. Glad you're ok

Just a few blocks from my building and just a day after my boss had a teams meeting spewing nonsense about "psychological safety" and downtown Edmonton not being as bad as people make it out to be so there is no reason to use feeling uneasy about parking commute to and from the office to work from home etc etc

It isn't that bad. But it isn't that good either and between the drug and alcohol dependency and the untreated mental illness of many homeless people (sorry, I meant "people experiencing homelessness") I get why some people feel uneasy.

But what happened at City Hall today had nothing to do with the "usual" downtown Edmonton problems. This was fascism fuelled by Danielle Smith, Poilievre, and Trump. The guy with the assault rifle in that photo is MAGA.

There are few things that irk me more than these pretend masculine tough guys who have never thrown a punch in anger, or had one thrown at them in their entire lives.

Never ceases to amaze that he holds himself up as an avatar of tough guy, blue collar alpha masculinity when he’s a trust fund baby who spent about a decade of his adult/professional life going around looking like this at all times:

All of those people with a camera in their faces and the attention of the country on their every word and not a single issue that isn't entirely within the scope of control of the provincial government was mentioned.

All grievance, bullshit, and deep misunderstanding of how Canadian politics actually work.

"I want an Alberta where we don't have to turn our lights off because we're out of power!!"

How dare Trudeau stop your province from building and running a functional power grid. The nerve of that guy.

Dairy cartel strikes again

also, lol UK. How's that whole brexit thing working out for you?

Instead, representatives from the Dairy Farmers of Canada have argued the U.K. should be negotiating with the EU to recover its share (15 per cent, based on British population) of the market access Canada handed over to foreign competitors under CETA.

"How is this the Canadian government's problem to solve?" wrote Jacques Lefebvre, DFC's CEO, in an email to CBC News.
