No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

I get it, you think he sucks and is overpaid, and you can't wait for him to be gone.

The subject here was whether Calgary would make certain player moves.

1) No. You think any criticism of your boy means I hate him. Childish bullshit.
2) Yes
3) I think it's a roster spot we can improve on for less money, yes. So connected to point #2.

Another day another lof ME Tavares debate. This is the longest series ever. The writers have truly run out of ideas.
If i were you i would get the box set of the first few seasons of Forum Ice and not let these waning idealess dull later years sully the memories of some of your favorite characters.

Surely to point 3 you'd take him on a new deal that is for significant less money.

There was a rumour they were close to re-signing Hanifin. If they do, it could make Weegar a little more available, but would require a "hockey trade".

Yeah if they keep Hanifin there's definitely no sell-off for futures kind of deals there. It's probably the most likely scenario but that's no fun for forum discussion

Summed up by saying you want him gone.

Which is fucking dumb, considering the fact that other than Gilmour (for a couple of years) and Sundin, and now Matty, we've basically never had a better center than him.

All you know how to do is trash the guy night and day despite his continued star performance, when he'd still be the 1C on a boatload of teams in the league.

Yeah, probably. He probably ages into a decent winger and PP specialist. Player's with John's aging curve (high quality players very early into his career) tend to age gently, though the lack of footspeed probably puts him as mentioned over on the wing. We've seen a bounce in his step to start the season, which is nice, but we'll see if that keeps up.

I just want the C off of him, and want him paid what I think he's worth (~8). I genuinely have no hate for him, he's a good player. I just don't have time for LoF's hero worship of him because John is living LoF's dream.

He's only on pace for 112 points in year 6 of his 7 year deal.

I have zero business praising him, you're right.

You love small samples when they suit your narrative eh?
I obviously don't think he's likely to finish with that, but he's fucking good, at a time in his deal when everyone but me was concerned he'd have fallen off a cliff. You especially.

So maybe just acknowledge that and appreciate that you have a star in this player, instead of the tiresome bashing every second.

Then why even mention it seriously?

That was my absolute worst case scenario concern and it hasn't come to pass. I'm happy about that. I actually like this team and want them to win. I want John Tavares to succeed. My largest concern was that he'd never be worth the deal to us and was the wrong guy to push this group to the next level. Both of those concerns have proven true.

Win some, lose some.
So maybe just acknowledge that

I have continuously acknowledged over the years that John Tavares is a very good hockey player. Full stop. You go nuclear whenever anyone criticizes him, questions whether he's worth the contract, suggests that he's been disappointing in the playoffs, suggests that there's anything to do with hockey at the highest level that he's not "one in the best in the league" at. etc, etc, etc. Maybe try acknowledging ever a single fucking criticism as warranted before lecturing me on what I don't acknowledge.
instead of the tiresome bashing

You really are a fucking twit about this. Posting his 3v3 statistics and providing an obvious fucking point of analysis based on how grim they are isn't "bashing" him. Stating that a player with better 5v5 statistics in a harder role is better than him at 5v5 isn't bashing him. Stop being a fucking child.

You know who's supposed to take us over the top? Matthews and Marner. But they haven't. Tavares was brought in to be support, the 2C, and he's done as well as we could reasonably expect in that role. I don't know which other magic 1C you had in mind to bring in, who would've come for free as a UFA, but you can play with that imaginary scenario for as long as you want.

I don't go nuclear about anything. There's constant complaining about a guy who's come in and done nothing but produce for 6 years. I think it's unfounded and idiotic. And yes, I appreciate the guy more because we have never had a player of his caliber, at his age, come home as a UFA and take on the pressure of bringing the cup back to TO. You saw the loser ROR come in and run away with his tail between his legs just a few months ago. We saw Pietrangelo want nothing to do with us. Stamkos use us to get a bigger deal from TB. Doughty disparage us in the press. And here's Tavares who fucking steps up and comes home, and all I hear is he's slow, and PP specialist, and feasting off linemates, and whatever other bullshit. It's annoying. Not Kampf starting OT level annoying, but annoying nonetheless.

Tavares was brought in to be support

Yeah, every organization always gives the support guy 11 million and the fucking captain C. Stop this.

Tavares was brought in to be the leader of a group of young guys who hadn't yet posted a single 70 point season between them. The leader. That's what the C means.

Why does any of this matter? Why do you care if good players come from Mississauga, Eglington & Yonge, Scottsdale, or Mars?

Oh sure, the idea was that Tavares was coming in to be the 1C and Matthews the 2C, right? From day one, that's what we were all saying?

And I don't necessarily care whether a great player comes from TO or anywhere else. First off, he's the biggest and best UFA we ever signed. And only secondarily, the fact that he has the passion and appetite for the pressure to be a key player in the TO market, when he's from TO and we've seen so many others reject the chance to be a Leaf, counts for something.

Don’t understand how leafnation first post in a decade gets immediately deleted yet these 2 boobs are allowed to have their billionth trillionth Tavares debate.
