No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Yeah, every organization always gives the support guy 11 million and the fucking captain C. Stop this.

Tavares was brought in to be the leader of a group of young guys who hadn't yet posted a single 70 point season between them. The leader. That's what the C means.

Why does any of this matter? Why do you care if good players come from Mississauga, Eglington & Yonge, Scottsdale, or Mars?
don't you remember the Kessel debates? a point against Phil was that he was American.

Guess who won the Kessel debates in the end.

Phil Kessel won

Kessel was never the problem here.

You want to start this one all over again?

I said it was the wrong move to make, to sacrifice all those picks, for a winger when we had no true core in place (in particular no 1C) and no chance of building one without those picks.

Kessel won cups where he was a complementary piece, not where he was the cornerstone player.

Kessel won cups, and I won the debate despite unanimous opposition and constant mocking. History will remain un-rewritten, thanks.

Pure fucking nonsense. Front to back nonsense. People keep retconning obvious mistakes by the GM (no lottery protection, signing the worst sieve in the league as your starter) as attached to the move itself. When you can get a 21 yr old with the potential to be one of the top 10 offensive players in hockey for 2 1sts, you do it every time.

"A complimentary piece"

2 seasons combined Playoff scoring paces

Complimentary Phil Kessel: 30G 45A, 75PTS

Cornerstone Sid & Gino

Sid: 24G, 55A, 79 PTS
Gino: 31G 51A, 82 PTS

and Phil led the team in scoring for the 1st cup run. 3rd best player on back to back cup champions is not a complimentary piece.

I hope you’re joking because I can’t take more bullshit from this place today.
you seem unwilling to accept that other people can have a different opinion about the same set of facts as you. this is the case here. you mischaracterize the pro-Kessel argument.

again, not trying to get into it, but happy to if we need to. and if you need everyone to publicly acknowledge that "LOF was right" then we're going to be at this for another few days or months, again.

my view at the time was that it was a good trade for the Leafs from an asset management perspective. my view hasn't changed given the passage of time.

maybe we should just create dedicated threads?

A) Jake Muzzin is a premier shut-down d-man - DISCUSSION;
B) The Phil Kessel trade (with BOS) was a great trade for TOR - DISCUSSION;
C) etc.
The "All Things Tavares Thread" will have 783 pages in a week

Kampf OT strategy is gaining steam and don't sleep on Matthew Knies discussion. Fuck me, this place would be a ghost town without LOF and ME. DON'T LEAVE!!! IGNORE THE HATERS!!

He was a complementary piece. They had two 1Cs and other star players.

Meanwhile, we were trying to compete with the likes of Grabovski and Blake, and one star in Kessel. I kept saying, no 1C and no chance of getting one without those picks = no cup. And therefore a stupid fucking trade to make at the time.

This is a fucking joke already.
