OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

a pitcher with Manoah's extreme lack of pro innings should never have his timeline dictated by a failure in starting pitching gambles.

but it would be fun to see him as a fan.

Yeah, he's still really raw in terms of pro innings. But he is already 23, so in that sense, it's not like you're rushing a 19 year old kid to the bigs.

Really hoping Atkins makes a move for a legit starter. No more of these junk guys. Wasting assets. We gave up a good prospect in Kendall Williams for garbage like Stripling.

Manoah should be in the majors because he is MLB ready and simply wasting innings in the minors. Striking out 2 per inning in AAA isn’t going to make him a better pitcher long term.

Also years of control is basically a non-issue for pitchers, but they have the same amount if control if they call him up now or if he makes the team next Spring.

It's not about control, it's solely the fact that Manoah has about 5 minutes of pro baseball experience.

I don't really buy the argument that getting called up too soon would "ruin" him or anything, but at least let him dominate for another start or two and work on his game till he's ready for prime time. It sucks that there were no minor league games in 2020, but the fact remains there were none. He'll be up soon, don't worry.

Agreed, it’s not about control.

Wonder if the White Sox wish they’d left Chris Sale in the minors in his draft year rather than calling him up for their playoff push. He had less minor league innings than Manoah.

Manny how is years of control different for pitchers ?

Technically it’s the same but most pitchers, even the best prospects out there, don’t make it 6 years in MLB without serious injury, dropoff in performance, or just straight up busting. Also while hitters are usually entering their primes in their late 20s, it’s not the same for pitchers. Manoah is probably in his prime right now. Everything he still has to learn, he can learn just as well in MLB.

It’s why I think you should generally call a pitcher up as soon as he’s MLB ready, rather than wait until you’ve achieved some arbitrary sense of enough time in the minors.

3gms of full season ball is not much to go on.

And you wouldnt be clamoring so hard for it if our rotation was decent.

A nonfunctional Pearson is what hurts

Didn’t expect miracles but a legit 3 would of been nice this year

Sad to lose in the 12th last night with a grand slam

Yeah, I'd be thinking less about improving the pitching if the pitching was already good. That's true.

No minor league season last year really skews things, and I think makes how many pro innings or pro starts a pitcher has under his belt a lot less relevant. Manoah probably would have started out in AA last year, and if he was dominant, possibly a late season call up. He didn't get to pitch in official games in 2020, but it's not like time just stopped.

The loss of the minor league season last year was bad for prospects, but great for MLB journeymen.

Anyway, he should be up soon. A few more starts doesn't matter much either way except to the extent that it moves a few Ws from Toronto to Buffalo.

Jays have a 2-run lead heading into the 9th and give up 4 runs. They’ve been so frustrating lately. It’s disappointing this is the pitching we’re forced to go with.

Chatwood has been one of their more reliable guys was bad today. You need at least one arm you can trust, and right now basically there's nobody.
