OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Everyone can be whatever kind of fan they want. So if WeHave doesn't want to watch Habs vs Jackets games for whatever reason, that's fine.

For me, I've grown to be tired of hockey, mostly that Habs management over the past 5-10 years has just not given much to root for. Sure, I got mildly excited this past year, but not really until the finals, and that ended pretty damn quickly. So yeah, I haven't watched a lot of Habs-Jackets games, but I haven't watched a lot of any of their games.

For baseball, definitely when the Expos left that was a sour taste, and I was angry. But definitely things mellowed over time, and in a lot of ways, not having a "home" team made me just watch the sport for the sport. And then obviously working in it now, it's actually exciting to just kind of be a fan overall. So there's an afternoon Padres-Braves game on? Perfect, sounds like something nice to put on in the background. Sure, I still throw on a Jays game if I can more than others, but it's nice to just pick and choose what to watch. And obviously would have loved for the Jays to make it deeper this year, but so be it.

And when the Nats won the World Series a couple years ago? I didn't hate it. No, I wasn't one of those a-holes claiming the "Expos" won, and I wasn't someone who was cursing and treating that like the biggest indignation in history (which it would have been had they won in the first couple years after the move). But they were a fun team, well put together, so I enjoyed watching their games.
i am going to stop you right there

you cannot be mega fans of many teams or a phony pony

Moving on(?)

Wild card games tonight (Boston-NYY) and tomorrow (LAD-STL)

Go Cards. Don’t care who wins on the AL as long as they are soundly thrashed in the division series.

Dodgers have a lot of fun players on the team, but they're a goliath so it's always fun to see them lose. Plus it should give the Giants a better chance to move on, and they'd be fun to see go on a run.

yeah but it doesn't stop him from talking mountains of shit does it? which I believe was the bullet point of that presentation.

the habs are just another team now. I remember when the Leafs drought was 30 years and I never heard the end of it from hab fans. fine....but you can't have it both ways.
Actually I do get to have it both ways until some other Canadian team breaks through and wins a Cup. Until that happens it doesn't matter how long the drought gets because the Habs will still be the last Canadian team to have won it. And now we are the last Canadian team to have reached the finals so the Canucks fans can take a seat on that one.

The reason Leafs fans got grief was because 3 other Canadian teams had won Cups since 67. And 5 of the other 6 Canadian teams have also been to a final since 67. That's why it's different. It isn't merely that the Leafs haven't won a Cup in 54 years, they also haven't won a Conference championship. They have accomplished NOTHING in those 54 years for any fan to get cocky about. And yet, there they are, day in, day out, thumping their chests and talking about how great they are. Based on what, exactly? 54 years of nothing?

Every fan of every other Canadian team not named the Jets has more justification in bragging about their accomplishments than Leafs fans. So look on the bright side. You still pwn the Jets fans, for now.

This is some weird, weird shit, but I love the uniqueness.

Your drive to watch your team’s games is fueled by which opposing team they’re playing?? What about just watching your team?? You’re definitely proving your thesis that hate > love, because hate seems to guide your interest in the Habs. Who can they play that’s hateful enough to get you to watch? What an odd barometer.
Sounds like his version of make up sex tbh.

You get your way because the only one that really cares is you.

I know that the NYY-BOS is in prime time and will probably not end before most people on the east coast have given up and gone to bed but is there any hope of afternoon baseball tomorrow when the Cards and Dodgers play?

Nope, sorry you don't. I don't particularly care how you decide to rationalize your hypocrisy.

the bright side is the emptiness of your shit talking. It's hollow. it no longer carries any weight.

y'know, because you haven't won in nearly 30 years.

so get bent.

i did not read all his stuff but he hates the habs more than the leafs
just sayin
Of course. I don't care if the Leafs are bad. In fact, I prefer them to be awful. Habs ownership and management and coaching and drafting and (so-called) player development stokes my hatred. I'd root for them to lose if I thought for one minute that results on the ice would have repercussions in the front office but apparently institutionalized mediocrity is the business model now so nothing they do or don't do changes anything about how they are run.

Still a quarter century more recent than your last Cup or head-to-head series win, which means I still own you.

HAHAHAHA you think MLB will want afternoon games? Heck no. The only reason we get afternoon games this weekend is because they want to space out the 4 games.

I have standards for my team (something I encourage Leafs fans to have instead of just blindly applauding your team simply for wearing the uniform right side out like parents of a toddler who just took his first dump) and when they don't meet those standards they don't capture my attention, only my scorn. I don't need to actually watch the Habs play the Devils in Newark to know that I'm going to be bored silly so I simply don't watch. I know what no risk, no reward hockey looks like. I don't need to see any more of it than is necessary.

Sometimes arguments are like trying to decide if a blow job or a hand job is better. Habs-Leafs is like trying to decide if a wank off an old Sears catalog is better than catching some titties off a scambled TV channel.

Yeah, it’s a mid-week game with a west coast team. Game starts at 8:10pm EST which is about as early as you could hope.

And then they cry about how they aren't connecting with young fans anymore. Well when your playoff games don't end until 2am nobody that young is watching. Afternoon playoff games rule (especially when you work in a near empty office due to Covid and have the ability to video stream, lol)

I remember racing home from school 43 years ago this week to catch the Yankees-Red Sox playoff game at Fenway. I was 12 and it was a school night so had the game only started at 8pm I'd have never seen more than the first couple of innings before being sent to bed.
