OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

A (likely) no to all 3 and it gets rough.

It's a likely no to all 3 imo. White is 28 yrs old with 22 career MLB starts and pretty rough looking numbers as a starter. Kikuchi always had some glaring red flags in his analytic profile, and Shatkins signed him anyway. A bounce back for him would be to a bad, HR prone #5.

Pearson is dead at this point. If he becomes a useful arm out of the pen, that's a win. He's not a starter prospect anymore and probably hasn't been for 2 yrs. Pure hopium to think otherwise. There's a better chance that Tiedemann breaks through and takes the job mid season, than Pearson coming back from the dead to claim it in camp.

Fwiw, hope for Juenger or Palmer to steal the job in the spring. At least there's some hope in the younger arms.

I want to see Vlad improve (nothing wrong with him now but they kind of need him to be great)

Yeah, very disappointing season compared to what he's capable of. Should be a 6-7+ WAR stick every year. His average exit velo, and launch angles were back to what they were in 2020. Basically all of his contact stats went back to 2020.

Fuck. We may witness Axl criticizing the Jays management. Sorry but I really want them to stick with that trio now. Could be a banner moment. Fair point that it's too early though.

I have criticized them plenty of times when it's warranted, I just don't see the point in a neverending parade of hate filled babble.

I guess you could say I never found the sweet spot of making the same unfunny joke 78 times.

Hmmm. Never-ending hate babble? Or reaction to Kiermaier saying that the “plan” you called “stupid” a few days ago is, in fact, the plan?

You’re so close!!!

Like the Leafs, that's what happens when the team doesn't produce any real success.

It's fine to be simply a fan of baseball though, and the Jays total ineptness and completely mediocre management may not specifically matter to you.

In that event, I could see you being annoyed by steady criticism here. I don't think there's a lot of people like you in this thread though.

Again, this is total nonsense. They took over an old team with an aging core, and quickly rebuilt it into a really good young team. Of course the hardest part in doing that is finding a young superstar to build around, and they were lucky enough to have Vlad already in the organization. The team they build around him is obviously good. To say it's inept and mediocre is just as dumb as people who criticize the Leafs due to the lack of playoff success. In baseball it's especially silly to have a 1 or 2 game play-in, but it is what it is. And sure at some point both teams need to advance. That doesn't mean they're shit teams with shit management.

Wait wait. Leafs lack of playoff success is fair game for criticism.

Gurriel - Kiermeier - Springer is def not how I envisioned the OF to look heading into next year. I’m really hoping we do better.

that OF is really injury prone and/or old. There is every reason to criticize the front office if this is it. I def see an avenue where all 3 are injured and our new mid season OF looks like Merrifield - AAAA waiver pickup - Biggio.

I worded that poorly, I did not mean to say people shouldn't criticize the lack of playoff success for the Leafs (or Jays). I do it myself. The point I was making is that the lack of playoff success doesn't mean the Leafs are shit, or that the first-round upsets make Dubas an inept or mediocre GM.

As for the Jays OF, again the only thing I said is that it's still mid-December and there's plenty of time left in the off-season. I agree they need to add another outfielder and I think they will, both for extra production and due to the injury-prone nature of both Kiermaier and Springer. If they don't, it's a mistake.

I think the previews went long and everyone walked out of the theater.
