OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

That’s not how this type of trade works, Mark. You traded a prospect for an established player, and lost year one of the deal. The evaluation is only going to get worse, even if the players stay the same. The Jays have three years of control on Varsho, at which point Moreno will have just started his arbitration years.

The awfulness of the trade is “undeniable”.

Shapiro ain't going anywhere until he decides he wants to leave. He's the ideal Rogers employee. Jays viewership and attendance is through the roof, Rogers is happy as shit.

Which means expect more of this over the next decade plus - a good but not great team, gets in the playoffs as often as not, has a chance if everyone gets hot at the same time, but never a true favorite.

The sweet spot of shared risk between Rogers and the fans

I still maintain some hope that after Atkins is fired, Shapiro is somehow compelled to bring in a real GM instead of a lackey, someone who will only take the job if Shapiro gets out of baseball ops entirely. Basically, the move Dolan forced in Cleveland when they promoted Antonelli.

Otherwise, yeah, he’s here as long as he wants to be.

In this story, Ed Rogers is the hero Gotham needs
