The Fucking Offseason Thread - Why bother waiting?

If he likes money....and we had money...what's the problem? Throw 3M x 2 at him and call it a day. If we were comfortable paying Kerfoot more than that to be a below average 3C the last 2 years, we should be comfortable paying Bonino to be a good 3C for 2 more years.

some guys don’t just want money - I don’t know. Some ppl don’t want to deal with covid in Canada cause if family or whatever. Some guys don’t want to play in this market. Some guys have an angry ex here and don’t want to be near him or her.

Sorry guys. I deserve the yellow card.

Not an excuse but I’m upset Perry hasn’t signed with the Habs yet. I fear he might be gone and I’m not ready to say goodbye to more moments like this one.

Didn't watch the video but looks like he's about to knee Tavares in the face.

All in all, Dubas did what I expected outside of getting a 3C - but the $$$ to get the one we all wanted was extreme. So I get it for now.

Thede depth pieces most fans seem to want can be had for cheap at the deadline like most years. Gives space for the kids to come in and try out.

The PP is just fucken weird. I don’t know if it’s a coach thing or what the fuck. But yeh - it’s a bonus if we find a pp specialist with a shot to play opposite of Matthews. Would be a bonus if that 3C can fill that spot. But for the cap space we had - I didn’t think this would be solved today. Those type of players are typically expensive. Rather goaltending.

Did not enjoy that moment (actually erased it from my memory, tbh) and now feel like a heel for making you think about it — honestly

I mean Bobby Mack said that the leafs and Bonino were talking and that the leafs were contenders to sign him. It's a short conversation if Bonino completely ruled out Toronto and it never makes the rumor mill. Leafs probably only offered Kampf money. This copout shit whenever dubas does something less than ideal is beneath us.

Ah yes the leafs need special magic math where you devalue all their bottom 6 points even though the team was relatively healthy all year.

Left wing was a carousel Zeke, you know this.

You and I must have a different definition of offensive depth. I don't give a fuck how many points Kerfoot can score when filling in on the JT-Nylander line. I care what rate he can score at when he's on a line with Mikky, Engvall, Simmonds, etc. If they're a black hole when they're together, that's not offensive depth.

Sigh. How do you propose we measure offensive depth.

disagree - goalie upgrade is enormous with the impact of a decent goalie vs Fred…we are better today to not have Fred start 50-65 games which was the worst outcome

Yeah, this is definitely a regular season goalie upgrade over last year. Jack-Mrazek should be roughly average overall at reasonable worst.

Honestly dunno, short of some sort of a 5v5 metric of scrub production only when playing with other scrubs.

I just know that when I look at our depth forwards and 50% or more of points they score all come with Matthews, Marner, etc, etc on the ice...well, that's not fucking impressive.

I do think that you're seeing the effect of having shit LW depth last season on the point totals of the depth forwards who almost all got to spend some time with those guys at one point or another. How to separate the wheat from the chaff though, dunno.

Thornton is a good example really. Was he really producing offence in a depth role when he started the season on a PPG heater with the kids and then did little of fuck all offensively for the rest of the season once he got knocked down the lineup?

He did almost nothing of value whenever on the bottom 2 lines, but if we categorize him as a bottom 6'er last season, his offensive numbers look great. It doesn't tell the story when context is applied though, does it?

#magicstats just for the Leafs to fit the narrative
