TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Is there actually an ex Leaf rule though?

Since 2010, here's the guys we decided to let go of or ran out of town.

Kulemin: Bounced back maybe a bit in NYI but same guy as Toronto
Versteeg: same guy
Bozak: won a chip, but was the same guy
MacArthur: Rule of the Ex Leaf until conkied
Grabo: Toast
Gigeure: Rule of the Ex Leaf
Beauchemin: Just for LoF, definitely a rule of the ex leaf
Reimer: same guy
Dion: junk
Phil: was a remained a stud
Gardiner: broken
Liles: broken
Franson: junk
JVR: same guy
Bolland: toast
Clarkson: toast
Bernier: same guy
Uncle Leo: toast
Grabner: only a Leaf for one year but went from junk to near 30 goal scorer...so okay
Freddy: found weight loss jesus, so okay
Zaitsev: junk
Hyman: same guy
Brown: same guy but 20 minutes a game
Kapanen: same guy
Johnsson: junk
Kadri: I miss this man
Marleau: junk
Hainsey: junk
Barrie: put up a bunch of PP points, but still junk
Ceci: junk

The only guys that we should have wanted back/kept (at their post Leaf contracts) were Phil, Giguere maybe, Beauch (lol, fuck you lof), Reimer probably, Slim Freddy (highly questionable if this would have happened here), & Kadri

Everyone else, we got out when the getting was good.
Fuck, Beauch was garbage.

As for the list, looks incomplete. Where are Verhaeghe and Marchment, for instance?

Also, we didn't really care about most of those guys. Most were run out of town for overstaying their welcome.

Jack ditched us for more money. Hyman too. There are some distinctions to be made among the players, I think.

Goalies are assholes though.

As if Mike Smith is an actual playable goalie in professional hockey. I've never seen that level of absurdity in net.

Verhaege played 2 games for the Marlies. That was the extent of his time spent in our organization. He made his NHL debut 6 years later. Marchment broke out in his 2nd year away from the Leaf org and dude played a whole 4 games as a Leaf. I don't think he qualifies as an "ex Leaf" in any real way.

The best goalie ever stopped pucks like this:

They're two guys they tossed away. I feel there have been more but my mind hasn't been leaf-focused lately, so I can't recall.

They're all ex Leafs that were still viable NHL players when we either punted them, traded them, or let them walk.

Stralman was another, but he missed the 2010 cutoff.

The guys we shipped to LA for Jack or Muzz, can't remember which.

Maybe the rule of ex-leaf is only situational then, where if one is playing against us, they will burn us without question. I may have inappropriately broadened the rule to extend to ex-leafs going on to unexpected success on an overall basis.

Everyone plays the game of their lives against us though. Ex Leafs, guys playing their first NHL games, and the 30% of the league from Ontario.

But we're generally pretty good at moving on from players when it's time to move on.

This is where quality advanced stats make a big diff

plus if you can’t evaluate your own players (who in many cases you’ve studied obsessively since they were 18) good luck understanding how this game works

I'm psyched for the likelihood that they can't possibly fail in the first round forever.

Keeps me coming back for more, even if they intend to do the impossible and destroy our souls.

It's funny we're in a spot where leafs fans are the only ones that can't enjoy the regular season.

How do you fix some of the most elite players in the league suddenly sucking shit in elimination games?

You have to just keep running it back with the best supporting cast you can assemble and hope they finally figure shit out.
