TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

P.s. they're moving Holl and both Sandin and Lilly will be full time top 6 dmen this year just like they were last year. There's no lack of playing time.
I agree trading Muzzin makes us worse short term but also a necessity that both those kids get playing time so this is the ideal move, IMO.

Switching Sandin to the right side seems really like a dumb idea by the Leafs.

If we get worse we might lose in the 1st round. I'm not hanging my hat on the idea Muzzin looked great in the playoffs (he did) so that will continue. Like giving Nick Paul 7 years over a couple of great playoff games.

Wait. Are we comparing Jake Muzzin to Nick Paul now? Wut?
It's this idea Muzz looked good for a few games after being shit and injured all year so that will continue. Eh, not so sure.
Switching Sandin to the right side just seems like a stupid idea to devleope such a strong young talent.

I agree with you but it is unclear if any of our LHD can succeed on the right. Guess we find out soon.

this narrative re Muzzin still ignores like... most available evidence.

Muzz definitely struggled at times during the regular season but was good down the stretch when healthy and a beast in the playoffs. And of course, has a long career where he's established himself as a cup-winning shutdown d-man.

He took a step back in the regular season vs. previous form, and then overwhelmingly rebounded in the playoffs. A far cry from shit.

115 point team without much help from Muzzin. We'll be fine without him. I'd worry we can't win once the playoffs start but you know..

It's amazing the Leafs don't employ load management. I'd rather Muzzin play 65-70 games per year by choice and let the kids actually get their feet wet in tougher matchups. Like we had real defensive depth this past year and refused to use it unless forced to by injuries. Madness to me.

Hockey is massively behind the curve on this.

Yeah, but we really needed Lubey in there.

yeah I'm sure we did..

point being though, this "they'll be top 6 just like they were last year" is pretty disingenuous. Keefe clearly doesn't believe in Lilly.

If Sandin had played he'd have had to switch sides as well.

Why are we valuing the regular season against largely inferior teams over successfully playing the most difficult minutes against a top 2 line in the NHL? I don't care who you are, that wasn't a fluke. You don't do that by accident. Sandin is great but he's not going to replace that. And.. having BOTH players might be the best idea of all!

The thing that’s kind of frustrating is that I’m pretty sure that Dubas/Keefe know the need for and importance of load management.

But then when their vets don’t want to sit out games, because that’s the hockey culture mentality, they’re either unable or unwilling to force them to do it.

Gio is the player blocking Sandin, who's roll next season should still be sheltered 3rd pair 5v5 and PP2 minutes. Move Gio to the right side to play with Muzz or as the veteran guy on the right side of Sandin.
