There are definitely legitimate points on either side of Mitchell Miller argument. What fascinates me about this is that Arizona, given that they had no picks until the 4TH round due to trades and a forfeit of their 2nd round pick, elected to use the highest pick they would make in this draft on such a controversial kid. Who the heck made THAT decision? MAYBE you can bury a pick of this kid in the 6th or 7th round when you have a pile of other picks on either side, but having him be the first pick your organization made in a draft? That was pretty dumb.

Oh wow, these new Dallas alternatives. I hate them so much that I think that I actually may like them. Will they be playing nothing but Daft Punk the whole game when wearing these uniforms?
I actually love them without reservation. While the NHL needs another black alternate jersey like a hole in the head, if you're gonna go that bold then I'm in. For context, I like bold, brash colorways in uniforms ... especially for alternates.

Yeah ... it's a yet another not great look for the Coyotes. If you're going to pick that kid in the draft, then do it with eyes wide open, prepared for the fallout and having an actual plan in place. Seems like they flew by the seat of their pants, and then decided retreat was their only option. It's just fairly spineless all the way around.

As for the various cases to be made ... yeah, I get that. I'd like to see people actually make them rather than just blurt on one side or the other.

Did you read the article in the Athletic?
No, I did not. Not a subscriber. But I get the impression that the kid's mom wasn't going to be satisfied until she had ruined Miller's life...which she sees as fair punishment for their claims. Again, this just plays into cancel culture, where anyone, and I repeat ANYONE, can accuse you of anything and ruin your life without a trial. Again, I'm not defending any of Miller's actions. But the consequences are overboard.

In this case there actually WAS a trial in juvenile court. Mitchell Miller pled guilty, admitted the abuse and was sentenced. I get your point about anyone accusing anyone else and destroying their life without due process, but that is not exactly what happened here.

I get it K. But this isn’t an only an accusation. Miller’s actions are awful and beyond just the kind of immature behavior we all have done and would be ashamed of. And he doesn’t appear to be sorry for his actions outside of how the impact his own future.

I have only heard one side of this story. But I did see where now the push is to get his college to kick him off the team and out of school. No matter how horrible his juvenile actions may have been, he's going to pay for those actions he did as a 14 year old, with his life. Imagine if EVERYONE were held to the same standards? I'm just really curious why these supposed horrible things went on for years as the mom claims. Why didn't she or anyone at the school step up and demand something change years ago? Why wait until now to demand punishment? I'll bet you that there are some NHL players out there right now, a little nervous about their pasts coming back to bite them if somene chooses to speak out. This doesn't begin and end with one case.

Yeah ... I think the bit about getting his college to cut him loose is over the line, at least for me. Miller went to NoDak after the legal ramifications of his case were realized and he apparently has tried to rebuild his life with professional help. NoDak knew what they were getting into. Nobody had a gun to their head or pulled any tricks on them. At some level and at some point I think you have to allow people a second chance, particularly if they are actively putting in the work to earn it. Is the kid perfect or "fixed" now? I mean, I doubt it. Would I have been happy with Carolina burning a draft pick on him? Probably not. Do I think he should just go live in a cave and contemplate his sins for the rest of his life? I honestly don't. What Miller did to that poor kid is inexcusable and should bear consequences ... and it has done. But at some point, we need to determine that the legally subscribed consequences are sufficient. I've got plenty of time for the argument that maybe he doesn't deserve to play professional sports, but to go after his ability to go to college and get a decent education ... and use his athletic ability to facilitate that end? No, at least not for me.

The issue (for me) is that he does not appear to be remorseful beyond being upset that his actions have consequences for himself. I’m all for second (and third and fourth) chances and forgiveness but not if you’re not sorry. He seems to have apologized to colleges and teams and coaches but not to the kid he wronged. That’s backwards. AND had he done so he wouldn’t likely be dealing with this issue.

I don’t know him personally so all I can do is speculate but I think if he has changed he would have apologized to the other kid. Now it’s too late. I also don’t think he should be kicked out of school but I don’t have an issue if he lost his scholarship and was removed from the team. I could be completely wrong though. I just know what I read.

UND president axed him from the team which is not surprising. In theory colleges should have higher standards than pro teams.

I think Vick should have missed more time considering he was convicted of a felony and did prison time.

Cancel culture at it's finest. No school is going to accept this kid now, and his chances of ever getting a decent job are slim and none now. I hope everyone involved feels proud and happy. I feel like Meyer-Crothers won't stop until this kid takes his own life. I hope this helps her heal.

Who needs courts, lawyers or judges. We have now a 100% effective, fast and cheap system now called "cancel culture".

You never hear the whole story. The articles all say that he has been sorry for himself. He says he apologized the the family. They say he did not. The family says the other kid did and they have forgiven him. If he truly apologized to the family, and meant it even a little, then this is way over the top and biased in the opposite direction. If he did a self-serving apology to others, he's got more work to do.

If the family is lying because of him having a big athletic opportunity, then that is a big issue. I will say that all the people that have written about this are writers that I respect (but I also used to respect Bobby Orr and Jack Nicklaus more than I do today).

After all of these events unfolding over the last week, I doubt he will ever have a word to say to the family. They punished him. They got what they wanted. They utterly destroyed him, and can now rest easy knowing they did so. Again, I truly hope this allows them to heal and move on. But like I said, I doubt they're done.

And how long before a slew of people come out of the woodwork now to rat out all the athletes who bullied them and got away with it?

Do you think the NFL should have reinstated Mike Vick?
I mean, they did .... he played for the Eagles ... and the world didn't come to an end or anything. And as far as I can tell Vick has gone on to be true to his word by working with canine charities and all the other stuff he promised to do in retirement.

You never hear the whole story.
That right there is the reason all of this public retribution or cancel culture or whatever we want to call it is a problem. We get a bunch of people all fired up about what seems like a horrible situation that happened years ago and then those folks (being decent, well intentioned people) turn around and demand justice. Cool. Now what ARE the actual details, and why was the justice administered by the legal system insufficient and what are the actual details of how we want to deal with these young men going forward? Those are all complicated, layered issues and no matter how well reported, no article is giving anybody enough information to make those decisions. Not in any real way.

He can probably play at a small school . Some of those teams will take kids like this . If he played FB the Raiders would take him.

Mike Tyson did time for rape and went back to boxing but that was a while back. He might not have done that now.
