I’m a northerner. I’ve had commercial shine but never homemade.
I’ve had some in Johnston county. And some from Slovenia the old man brought back in 1972. Mom keeps telling me I should take the remaining half bottle back home with me. That dude Sunfox who used to post here would know what it is!

There is a GMs meeting at noon today. Per LeBrun, some of the items on the agenda are:

_ 2020-21 season, possible timing and different format/scenarios
_ AHL and player development
_ Seattle expansion update
_ Draft lottery
_ Speaking Period prior to free agency (dropped in new CBA)
_ World juniors

My sweet tooth has me leaning toward apples and cinnamon when choosing my mason jar liquor.
Yeah ... "apple jack" shine seems to be the most common of the flavored stuff. Down in the foothills around Shelby and Hickory they use peaches for a kind of "peach melba" thing.

I mean, the straight illegal stuff tastes like gasoline, so it needs something to cut the nastiness. Either way that stuff is foul.

I used to work with a guy who's Dad down in Harnett Co. ran a still and farmed watermelons. The only passable shine I've ever had was the watermelon infused stuff he used to make. It wasn't smooth, per se, but it didn't immediately attack the lining of your stomach either.

one of my college roommates from north Hampton county would bring back these moonshine cherries from home. Holy cow. As my grandad would say, “that’ll put lead in your pencil”

I've tried it twice. Once in grad school when some undergrads next door let me try some. Utter rotgut. The second time was at a wine dinner at a local restaurant when it turned out the guest winemaker and the restaurant's head chef shared some good ol' boy roots. The chef broke out his stash and not surprisingly it was smooth as silk.

Nashville hires Todd Richards as an assistant, making a lateral move from Tampa. He started his coaching career in the Preds organization, as an assistant at AHL Milwaukee in 2002. He’s another guy tied to the early 90s Whalers, with his only NHL experience the 8 games he played in Hartford in 1990-91 and 1991-92, also playing for Springfield those 2 years as well as all of 1992-93.

Corey Pronman ranks the top 155 players under 23 in this piece in The Athletic...

Along with current members of the big club Svech (#6) and Necas (#35), five other Canes prospects—Jarvis (#75), Bean (#78), Suzuki (#100), Gunner (#123) and Bokk (#140)—make the list. With seven players overall, Canes make up 4.5% of the list, a pretty good share in a 31-team league! Only four teams—the Rangers and Devils with nine each and the Kings and Sens with 8 each—have more players on the list than your Carolina Hurricanes.

Sam Reinhart and the Slugs avoid arbitration, he re-signs for 1 year/$5.2 million. He was coming off a 2 year deal with a $3.65 million AAV.

The does seem weird, but unless I'm completely mis-reading Jason's capabilities I can't imagine it's all that big a deal. Could be as simple as him and Forrest not being able to get on the same page. Or maybe Uncle Jimmy finally figured out that Karmanos the Younger has only done back room scutt work thus far in his career for a reason.

Not a fan of straight corn liquor. Gimme peach, especially if it's well made. Run 3 times with a nice peach finish. MMMmmm.
I like a well finished apple brandy, especially mixed with some raw apple cider. Win/win.

Coyotes first pick has a criminal past. Do they do background checks? Probably will now

Imagine if every teenager in our lifetimes had their future/career/life ruined by mistakes and immaturity? I'm not excusing his behavior, but they need to let it go. The family is set on ruining his career 4 years after his sad behavior. I'm not a big fan of cancel culture. Everyone has skeletons. If he hasn't learned from his mistakes, he'll mess up again and it will be dealt with.

In principal, yes ... but it's worth noting that the Coyotes press release is playing it off like they are making some sort of humanitarian effort by taking this kid, when in fact it's pretty obvious that they had no idea (or didn't care) about his past. Painting with broad strokes, I don't think a kid's entire future should be settled by stupid mistakes made in youth. Looking at it on a more micro level, I'd be 100% fine if the team I support took a pass on him in the draft ... or at least didn't spend a 1st rounder on someone with that particular history.

And look ... in sports, your draft selections are always judgement calls. On talent, on physical makeup and potential, and on character. So trying to remove value judgements from the process is kind of never happening. I don't think you are cancelling a prospect by taking him in a lower round because you have concerns about ... pretty much anything. And that's an outcome that wouldn't have resulted in a single raised eyebrow.
