Can they though? They have $7.7 million in Cap room with several key RFAs to account for. They would have MAYBE $3-4 million to play with barring a trade to take some AAV out of the mix. If Carolina makes a move today, it's either going to be minor or it will trigger a raft of other moves.

Between this, the earlier trade of Nutivaara and buying out Wennberg, they’ve shed close to $12 million in cap,space. When Dubinsky goes on LTIR, that takes them up close to $18 million. Keep your eyes on them tomorrow.

Yeah you have to think Fleury gets around $2 million and Foegele gets $1.5 to $1.75 million per...so there goes close to $4 million of that cap space. One of Dzingel or Nino moved is the easiest way to free up more space, but that's easier said than done. I still think the Canes may make a move for a veteran type winger to replace Williams leadership and character in free agency, not necessarily a big move, but a depth signing. I see them staying out of the UFA goalie carousel and more opt to wait and see if a Kuemper or Fleury type trade materializes after the free agents are signed first...

Blackhawks trade forward Brandon Saad and dman Dennis Gilbert to the Avs For dmen Nikita Zadorov and Anton Lindholm.

Another nice piece of business from Joe Sakic in Colorado. Even if Saad doesn't bouce all the way back, Zadorov was surplus to requirements and not that great to begin with. The other two parts are just depth swaps.
 
Isles trade dman Devon Toews to the Avs for 2nd round picks in 2021 and 22. He’s a RFA that the Isles had qualified. He’s coming off a 2 year/$1.4 million contract. I’m puzzled. They have Barzal and Pulock to sign, but the savings on Toews couldn’t have tipped them over, could it? He doesn't have arbitration rights, so he would have cost them his QO of $787.5k. On the other hand, they have 7 dmen under contract with Pulock in arbitration. So 2 picks for him is a decent return.
 
Vegas sends dman Nate Schmidt to Vancouver for a 2022 3rd rounder. That gives them $5.95 million cap savings.
 
Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon says the goalies will be Robin and Marc-Andre. So there’s that. He also said that Lehner needs shoulder surgery, described as “clean-up”. He doesn’t know how long the offseason is but he says Lehner will be ready for camp.

He's also kidding himself. Even with the Schmidt trade, he’s nearly $1 million over the cap. And he only has 12 forwards on the roster. Granted, their AHL team will be down the street, but they do play half their games on the road.

Yet another good piece of business for Joe Sakic. While all the hockey media was fantasizing about the Avs spending their Cap space on short term free agent signings that were unlikely to ever happen, Sakic is quietly out there acquiring quality for next to no cost going out. Toews is really effective and just coming into his own and they've rounded out their forward support lines quite nicely. They're locked and loaded so long as the goaltending holds up.
 
Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak will miss the start of the season after offseason surgery. Pastrnak had arthroscopic hip surgery and labral repair and is expected to be out until February. Marchand is expected to be out about the same time after undergoing sports hernia surgery in September. Normal recovery time is about 4 months.

Yeah ... I mean, Pasta seems like a decent guy and I'd probably like him if he played for another team. Shame he hurt his hip in such dumb circumstances. Marchand? Whatever. He can get gangrene for all I care.
